The Town of Vail Finance Department is currently hiring a Licensing and Revenue Auditor to join their team of talented professionals! This is a great opportunity to use your compliance and auditing skills and apply them in an organization that proudly serves the citizens and guests of Vail.

 

The Licensing and Revenue Auditor is responsible for short term rental licensing and enforcement. This position is also responsible for revenue audit functions for the town including the monitoring of paid parking transactions and oversight of sales tax audits and construction use tax audits.

 Examples of essential responsibilities:

  • Manages annual licensing for approximately 2,400 property owners and short term rental license revenue.
  • Professionally interact with unlicensed property owners to facilitate the enforcement process.
  • Interpret and explain town regulations specific to Short Term Rentals. 
  • Investigates complains from Short Term Rentals and maintains violation files.
  • Audits all daily parking cash receipt envelopes to ensure balancing between revenue reported in system and cash / credit payments; Verify daily parking sales report to cashier reports; Check both sheets for addition and other errors

  • Directs tax audit activities performed by external audit contractor. This includes approving selection of audits, reviewing the audit results and working with the Finance team to ensure proper billing and collections of potential receivables.
  • Manages inquiries and audits of Construction Use Tax.
  • Provides other backup functions for the Finance department as needed.

Skills / Requirements

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles required.

  • Ability to understand and communicate town regulations specific to short term licensing, and assist with enforcement of those laws.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person, on the phone or via email.  

  • Skilled in spreadsheet, word processing and other computer applications.

  • A motivated and detail-oriented person with strong organizational skills is well suited for this position.

  • At least 3 year’s progressively responsible accounting or payment processing experience required.

  • 1-2 years audit experience preferred.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience would also be relevant.

  • Excellent writting skills and customer service experience required.
