    The Town of Vail is hiring an Auto body Repair Person, Journey Level, to join our Fleet Maintenance Team.  In this position you will be responsible for appraising, repairing and refinish body and/or frame damage to TOV fleet vehicles and equipment and to maintain the appearance of vehicles and equipment.



    Appraisal: Write estimates for vehicle damage and submits estimate to Risk management and insurance company for reimbursement.

    Frame Repair: Minor frame repair, use measuring systems and frame equipment such as centerline gauges, power post, anchoring systems to repair minor structural damage to a vehicle frame or Uni-body structure.  Repair body damage to buses and other fleet equipment.


    Nonstructural repair: Preforms body repair such as replacing panels, repairing dents, replacement and/or removal of parts related to a collision repair, requires some welding, and performs all duties related to collision repair and prepping for refinish.


    Refinish: Prep and paint vehicles and equipment. Knowledge and ability to utilize HVLP (high volume low pressure) paint guns. Mix color tints, and match existing colors. Apply paint and blend to match existing color.


    General Duties:  Maintain the body repair bay and spray booth. Install of decals on all Town vehicles. Complete work orders daily, perform parts inventory duties as necessary, attend and participate in Fleet staff meetings.


    Must be capable of utilizing a respirator, which requires a medical facility to approve an employee to utilize a respirator, which may require a pulmonary function test. Responsible for complying with all Town of Vail safety and health policies, practices, and procedures that prevent and mitigate human economic losses arising from accidental causes and adverse occupational and environmental health exposures.

Qualified applicants must be self motivated and have the ability to work individually without direct supervision to accomplish multiple tasks. 


    The position requires hands-on experience and knowledge in vehicle maintenance. Position requires shift work, the winter work schedule for the Fleet Division covers from 5:00am to midnight seven days a week, summer work schedule covers 6:00am to 5:30pm.

    Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Completion of an auto body repair apprentice program with a minimum of 8,000 hrs on-the-job training and 576 classroom training or combined experience and training equivalent to a auto body repair apprentice program.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
    • Must have the ability or have prior experience analyzing body damage for appraisals and estimates.
    • Knowledge in structural and non-structural collision repair
    • Knowledge in paint mixing, color matching and painting vehicles/equipment.
    • Must be able to perform repairs requiring stooping, bending, heavy lifting and physical exertion, full range of body motion required.
    • Class B with P2 endorsement drivers license.
    • Complete defensive driving course within 6 months of hire.
    • Must have adequate set of hand tools in a roll-around toolbox.
    • Must be able to utilize a respirator after receiving a pulmonary function test from a medical facility.
    • Position has exposure to the outdoors in all weather conditions and all types of equipment noise, traffic, chemicals and fumes. Stooping, standing, kneeling and lifting is required the entire shift.
