    The Town of Vail is seeking a full-time year round professional to lead the Sales Tax function within the Finance Department. Under general direction from the Finance Director, the primary purpose of this position is to supervise, plan and coordinate all sales tax related functions, supervise tax auditing services; and educate taxpayers on pertinent tax laws and requirements.

    Sales Tax Administrator manages external financial reporting for sales tax and business licensing with annual collections totaling over $26 million. They will provide extensive reporting and analysis of revenue collection, tax auditing, and forecasts for delinquent accounts. Responsibilities also include supervision of one sales tax technician and managing relationships with businesses, auditors, special event promoters/vendors, and departments across the Town operations in relation to sales tax.

    Hiring Range:$61,956 - $74,342

    *Transitional employee housing offered based on availability.

    Skills / Requirements

    Qualified applicants must be able to quickly learn and effectively communicate the town’s ordinances, state statutes, regulations, policies and procedures relating to sales and use taxes. This position requires solid knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of accounting, budgeting and compliance auditing and the skill and ability to apply that knowledge to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration or equivalent experience.
    • At least 3 years of progressively responsible relevant experience is required. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
    • Government finance experience and / or tax administration preferred.
    • At least 1 year of management / leadership experience is required.
    • Proficiency in computerized financial applications including all Microsoft office systems and management systems used for sales tax and business licensing is essential.
