Vail Fire and Emergency services is seeking motivated, experienced and physically fit candidates to join our wildland program. The Vail Fire Wildland program is a hybrid fuels and suppression program. The program operates as a type 6 engine module for initial attack and national dispatch. As a wildland firefighter for the Vail wildland program you will participate in fuels reduction including; tree cutting and falling, piling of trees and slash, wildfire home hazard assessments and fire operations including; engine and pump operations, wildland fire suppression and prescribed fire operations.
Response: Wildland Firefighters will respond to all wildfires within the 200 square mile Vail Fire response area as well as mutual aid requests throughout Eagle County. Elevation range within the response area is 6,000-14,000 feet above sea level with many steep and rugged slopes. The module may also be utilized for other types of all hazard calls as appropriate. Employees will be available for national dispatch as local fire conditionals allow. Employees may be exposed to extreme temperature variations, extended work hours, dust and smoke, insect bites and other unpredictable working conditions.
Schedule: The season will run May through Oct. Employees will work either a 4 day - 10 hour or 5 day- 8 hour schedule based on module and department need. Overtime is based on fire activity and need.

Qualified applicants must be experienced police officers or police academy graduates passionate about joining our progressive police department and serving in a resort mountain community. As a member of the Vail Police Department they will perform the duties of a sworn law enforcement officer, as designated by the command staff under the Chief of Police. This position is responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances set by the State of Colorado and Town of Vail. Work involves prevention, detection and investigation of accident and criminal activities, security and safety of prisoners, protection for the public and maintaining law and order. Officers must be able to act without direct supervision in emergency situations.

Our state-of-the-art communication facility is located in Vail, CO and dispatches emergency service calls 24/7 – 365 days a year, for 13 public safety agencies in Eagle County. This very important role ensures community safety utilizing phone and radio systems to support county-wide Police, Fire, and EMS agencies. Dispatch duties include, but are not limited to:
- Receiving, analyzing & prioritizing 911 calls as well as non-emergent phone calls for Police, Fire, and EMS service.
- Performing Emergency Medical Dispatch when appropriate and giving lifesaving instructions over the phone to callers.
- Effectively utilizing a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system to prioritize calls, record incident details & identify the status and location of responders in the field.
- Distributing calls for service for Police, Fire & Medical units according to guidelines.
- Monitoring radio traffic for Police, Fire & Medical units.
- Access a secure, nationwide database to look up confidential records for responders, including driver and vehicle registration statuses & warrants.
- Sending emergency alerts to the public.
