Now Hiring: Development Services Technician or Development Review Coordinator

Are you a detail-oriented, customer-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment supporting the development review process? The Town of Vail is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Community Development team in a full-time, year-round capacity. Depending on your experience, education, and technical capabilities, this opportunity may be filled as either a Development Services Technician or a Development Review Coordinator.

 

As the first point of contact for development-related inquiries, you will provide exceptional customer service to residents, contractors, architects, and developers. You’ll play a critical role in guiding applications through the permitting process, supporting review boards, and ensuring accurate tracking and documentation of applications and agendas. This position requires a blend of administrative precision, technical aptitude, and public-facing professionalism.

Qualifications – Experience, Skills & Education

 

The role level (Technician or Coordinator) will be determined based on a candidate's qualifications, including:

 

Minimum Qualifications for Development Services Technician:

  • 3–4 years of office administration experience, preferably in a municipal or development-related setting
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Ability to quickly learn permitting software and development-related processes
  • Experience with data entry, document management, and scheduling
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

Preferred Qualifications for Development Review Coordinator:

  • 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in planning, permitting, or municipal development review
  • Working knowledge of local government development processes, zoning, and building/fire codes
  • Experience preparing reports, agendas, and public notices for boards or commissions
  • Familiarity with permitting software (e.g., Accela or similar)
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
  • ICC Permit Technician certification (preferred)

Candidates who demonstrate leadership, technical proficiency, and a strong understanding of the development review process may be considered for the higher-level Coordinator role.
